Synopsis
Set in Venice in the early 1940s during the fascist regime, The Key follows an aging art critic, Nino, and his much younger wife, Teresa, whose marriage lacks passion. Nino records his fantasies in a secret diary, hoping Teresa will discover it and embrace her desires. As she undergoes a sexual awakening—partly influenced by an affair with her daughter’s fiancé—she becomes more willing to explore her relationship with Nino. The film sparked controversy due to its explicit scenes but found commercial success.
